The sound behind the music.
Bose Automotive had a familiar challenge: how do you make automotive audio feel like more than a technology demonstration?
We found the answer in the people making the music.
Hippo Campus obsessed over every detail of how their songs sounded. Bose obsessed over every detail of how people heard them. That shared pursuit became the idea behind Road Sets.
I led creative and art direction for a four-part video series and dedicated microsite that put the band and a Bose engineer together in a Bose-equipped vehicle traveling through Los Angeles. Along the way, they talked about music, sound and the details behind both.
The story moved across film, digital and social, with Bose and the band driving fans to the Road Sets experience for new episodes, artist stories, engineering insights and exclusive content.
The series culminated in an intimate rooftop performance of “Tuesday” at the Rosslyn Hotel, connecting the way the music was made with the way Bose wanted people to hear it.
EPISODE 1: PRODUCING LIVE SOUND
Hippo Campus wants to recreate the feeling in their live shows. Bose wants to recreate it in your car.
EPISODE 2: SURROUNDED BY SOUND
You don't have to fill a cabin with speakers to fill it with sound.
EPISODE 3: SOUND WITH EMOTION
Hippo Campus: The Halocline was visceral and raw coming out. None of that should be lost when you listen to it.
EPISODE 4: THE ESSENCE OF BETTER SOUND
Bose captured an exclusive rooftop recording of Hippo Campus' unreleased track “Tuesday,” performed live under the neon lights atop the Rosslyn Hotel.
